I have visited a lot of miniature golf courses in other states, many of which have interesting themes, but the Mountain State Miniature Golf course tops them all, in my opinion. Unlike many courses in other states that are designed for children, the Mountain State Miniature Golf course in Beckley, WV is a place where adults and children alike can enjoy a fun and educational experience. Each of the 18 holes represents a landmark or area of interest in West Virginia and contains an information plaque about each one. Not only is each hole unique in design, but guests can learn about West Virginia history while they play! The course begins with the challenge of crossing a miniature New River Gorge Bridge and ends with a Coal Mine where your ball disappears into a mountain. Along the way, golfers must play their way through the WV toll booths, Seneca Rocks, through historic buildings, and around a statue of John Henry. Guests must even beware of the glowing red eyes of the legendary Moth Man as they play!
The Mountain State Miniature Golf course is an inexpensive, yet challenging course that is a must-see when visiting Beckley, WV! The shaded area offers some protection from the sun, but be sure to use bug spray--especially when playing at night!
