How I Prevent Myself from Catching a Sickness at the Gym
At the gym I was surrounded closely by other people breathing hard, sharing air and gym equipment, and without even realizing it I was probably coming into contact with other people's sweat and bacteria.
What I didn't realize was that while I was being sure to wash my hands a lot and take other precautions to avoid catching sick germs throughout my day, I was neglecting to take the necessary precautions while I was at the gym, a place I thought was strengthening my immune system. At the gym I was surrounded closely by other people breathing hard, sharing air and gym equipment, and without even realizing it I was probably coming into contact with other people's sweat and bacteria.
Once I started following a few habits at the gym to avoid this, I found myself no longer getting sick as much as I used to.
When you get to the gym wash your hands right away. It is also a good idea to wash your hands after using any shared equipment. If you don't want to keep going to the sink in between each machine you use, it's a good idea to carry around anti-bacterial gel with you. That way you can simply use it between machines so you are not helping to spread germs and get others sick. You could even get anti-bacterial wipes to clean the equipment before you use it.
Another thing to keep in mind when trying not to get sick is to not use your hands to wipe sweat off your face. Instead you should be using a clean towel, which the gym should supply. If you're nervous that the gym towels might also have germs, you can always bring one of your own.
Every time you go to the gym be sure to wear clean and dry clothes. Don't wear something you wore the day before that seems clean because the germs and bacteria from he gym might still be on them and could still get you sick.
After you're done at the gym be sure to take off your gym clothes right away and shower to get rid of any sweat, bacteria or germs lurking on your body. If you don't like to shower in the gym or simply don't have time to, make sure at the very lease you wash your hands.
Make sure you don't share any of your gym or shower equipment, even if you are with a friend. Make sure you have your own towel, yoga mat, soap or anything else you bring with you. That way you know it's clean, germ free, and won't make you sick.
And if you do get sick anyway, stay away from the gym until you feel better. Working out will not help your body heal and you will only be spreading your sickness to others.
