Five tips to loose weight or maintain your weight during the holiday season.
Most of us have been on numerous diets for weight maintenance or weight loss. We have all heard the weight loss tips from drinking a glass of water before eating, focusing on vegetables, avoiding carbohydrates, increasing exercise, cooking special calorie-low meals, etc. But during the holiday season, we need clear and simple tips to make and keep personal fitness goals. After all, there are many other things to accomplish and keeping personal fitness goals is only one of them.
The first decision to be made is to set individual personal fitness goals. You must determine whether you want to loose or maintain your weight during the holiday season. The goals of either weight maintenance or weight loss determine the strategy. Maintaining weight is an easier fitness goal than loosing weight. Gaining weight during the holiday season is avoidable as long as you pay attention to your personal fitness goals.
The following five tips will help you maintaining your personal fitness goal. The tips are helpful for both weight maintenance and weight loss.
Tip 1: Establish your daily calorie needs. Calorie needs depend partially on your level of exercise. Depending on your personal fitness goal of weight maintenance or weight loss, calculate your daily calorie need for no exercise, moderate exercise, and heavy exercise. There are plenty of good calculators on the web for this purpose. Write the results of these calculations on a note card together with your personal fitness goals. Take it with you wherever you go. You might supplement this information by writing down how many calories you expend during physical activities you are likely to engage in during the holiday season.
Tip 2: Keep track of what you eat and write your calorie estimate down immediately. Once you have reached your daily calorie needs, stop eating or focus on low-calorie food. During the holiday season, we are more attempted to snack in between our three or five daily meals. And these snacks can add up quickly. For example, a single cookie can easily amount to eighty or so calories. Ten cookies equal almost half of a 1,600 calorie diet. Maintain your personal fitness goals by snacking with a conscious mind.
Tip 3: Save calories the days before and after big holiday season meals. If you know that a big family meal is coming and that you will eat more than your daily calorie intake allows, try to save on calories the day before and after. Tip 4: Listen to your body. If you have been on a mainly plant-based diet for a time, eating a large piece of meat will most likely make you feel uncomfortable. Eat a smaller piece of the holiday season turkey or ham, eat slowly, and savor the flavor. Most likely, you will receive the same satisfaction you would get from eating a large piece.
