Golf Tip: Pitch Shot

There are many different shots that can be used around the greens during a round of golf.

All the best players in the world use these shots to win tournaments and these shots allow them to make a living playing golf. If you were to ask any of them which are the most reliable they all would most likely say the pitch shot. In the same way many of them will credit this shot in them winning a golf tournament at some point in their career. Some players like Phil Mickleson became famous for their ability to hit this shot. But all in all this shot can be a very affective shot to have in a player's arsenal.

This shot is very similar to a chip shot, but the pitch shot is more like a putt just using a variety of different clubs. This shot can be executed with a number of clubs. You can use any iron in your bag as well as any of your wedges. But along with your irons you can use fairway woods as well as rescue clubs to hit this type of shot. This shot is normally used in a situation where there is very little grass the ball has to run over before it gets to the green. This shot, if hit properly, should roll almost identically to a putt. This is a very popular shot to use if one is playing over seas in England or places similar where the grass in the fairway is as short, if not shorter, than the grass on the greens.

If you are to watch the British Open this shot would be probably the only shot you will see executed around the greens. To hit this shot is almost identical to hitting a chip shot. The ball should be placed toward the back of your stanch in order to keep it low to the ground so it will roll better. Next, when you've decided how hard you need to hit the shot with the club you have chosen make a short version of your full swing keeping your hands in front of the club at all times allowing the ball to stay low to the ground. Perfecting this shot will drastically lower your scores.
