Tiger Woods stories broke out all over today as his former mistress reportedly used cocaine while pregnant with his child, his soon to be ex-wife studies sexual addiction, and he struggles on the golf course.
It was not even seven months ago when the greatest golfer in the world, one who enjoyed a squeaky clean reputation and unprecedented endorsements, had his cover blown as a mysterious late night car accident and a report of an affair with New York party girl named Rachel Uchitel emerged.
At first, to many, it seemed to be a story that had to have a plausible explanation. But as the days and weeks went by, it was clear that Tiger Woods' personal life was a total disaster and that the man himself, who seemed to personify steely resolve and self discipline, was an individual with serious behavioral problems.
One of Woods' many mistresses, porn star Devon James, claimed yesterday that her nine year old son, Austin, is Woods' and filed a paternity suit against him. Today, it was reported that James admitted to using cocaine while pregnant with Austin. While the focus this week may be on Woods' performance (or lack thereof) in the US Open, the paternity suit will quickly become the focus if and when DNA tests are ordered.
Meanwhile, Woods' estranged and soon to be ex-wife Elin Nordegren has enrolled at Rollins College in Florida. She is said to be taking courses involving abnormal human behavior, including mental problems and sexual addiction. While it is always risky to diagnose strangers from afar, it is clearly not a stretch to think that Elin, as part of the healing process, is throwing her energies into understanding just what might have gone wrong with her soon to be ex-husband.
Oh, and lest we forget, Tiger Woods, the former greatest golfer of all time is playing in a major golf tournament this weekend as he competes, or tries to, in the US Open. Woods is currently tied for 39th in the Open, with a four over par through the first two rounds. While the Tiger of old might still be counted on for a dramatic run over the weekend, the post-scandal Tiger Woods is clearly not the same. While his shaky play throughout the year could be attributed to more than just personal problems (Woods has had serious knee injuries through the years), it's clear that his aura of invincibility is gone; at least for now.
At 34 years old, Woods is still a young man and may yet turn his play and career around. But for now, Tiger Woods stories typically include more about things like porn stars, cocaine, a pained soon to be ex-wife than they do stories about golf course dominance.
