If you head to the same restaurant for its amazing food and eclectic décor, the place might just be the perfect reception venue. Ideally, this restaurant is off the beaten path and the manager knows you by name. If not, some restaurants might be hesitant to close their doors just for you on their busiest Saturday night. Nonetheless, if some charming café has been a long-time favorite of you and your fiancé, this could be the perfect place-you save in decorating costs, and the food will be up-to-par.
+State Parks/Historic Landmarks: state parks can be gorgeous in scenery, and the places usually have a great dose of history. Maryland, for example, has old historic homes just 15 minutes outside of DC that rent for just a fraction of the price of mansions built specifically for weddings. For example, Snow Hill Manor costs just $1200 to rent as opposed to the Decatur House in DC which costs $5,000. Both are practically identical in their ambiance and Colonial theme. State parks tend to be lenient with their alcohol policies, too. While a permit is required, the ability to bring your own alcohol is a savings in the thousands of dollars. Look online for state parks and historic homes-the results can be amazing.

While the reception might have to be in a nearby park, offering your guests the ability to explore stalactites and stalagmites is just awesome. When searching for my own ideal wedding place, I found interesting mills, farms, forests, ice skating rinks, waterfalls, little islands and other places I had never even considered. So, instead of settling for another cookie-cutter venue, stray off the beaten path... you never know what exciting possibilities exist just a block away.
