I Don't Have Time for You
You send your parents cakes on Mothers day and Fathers day. I mean, What more do they want from you?
It was "Mother's Day", few days ago. All the Television channels had mother's day special shows playing for hours, in fact it was celebrated so thoroughly that even the maids who work at my place got me to write "best wishes" for their mothers. It was quite surprising to see so many people appreciating the event, wishing their mothers and giving them gifts. I could see a lot of people buying cakes, gifts and cards for their moms, where i only gave my mom a hug. It's not that i couldn't buy anything for my mother, it's just that i didn't think or believe that one single gift or card could even express 1/100th of my feelings for my mother."All that Glitters is not Gold", watching everyone celebrating i thought maybe i am thinking too much and should just give my mom presents too, so i shared my thoughts with my mom and she softly smiled at me saying "still water runs deep". At first i did not understand why mom had said that, but not so long after the oh-so-celebrated event i witnessed the meaning behind it.
Those people who had thrown huge parties to show how much they love their moms, who gave expensive gifts and who wrote long speeches for their mothers, that loving and caring image of theirs was shattered right after that day. "A good name is better than riches" is probably what they were aiming for. Before going in further detail, let me tell you that "Father's day" is the only day of the year when the most calls are made. Which obviously means that almost everyone takes time out of his/her oh-so-busy schedule to make calls to his/her father. Which of course to most of us would be an "act of awe". I know a lot of people are going to be confused as to why 'an act of awe' , well they say "a word to the wise enough" but you wouldn't want to call yourself wise, right? Rather pretty smart, after making that call to your father in ages, telling him how much you love him and that you reserved a table for two at some posh restaurant to celebrate the day.
Your Father gets very happy, tells you that he's been looking forward to this day all year. You hang up smiling, feeling proud of yourself for taking out time for your own father but then a thought strikes your smart brain, remember the ' act of awe' i mentioned earlier, well this is it, more than half of us get goosebumps thinking; what if our parents tell us that because they are old and lonely they want to move in with us, there you go! you end up doing two things by the end of the day, first is you cancel the dinner and tell your father that you have a once-in-a-lifetime meeting with some head of the company or you go for that dinner and ask your father to lend you some money telling him that you're broke.
"You can't tell a book by it's cover". Now some of you will try very hard to show disgust and hatred towards these people, who cancel the dinners with their fathers or tell their mothers that they can't take them to parties or parks etc because its embarrassing, but deep down we're all thinking "the children must have their own reasons to do so", doesn't that sound very fair?. "You can't take it with you if you die", isn't that true? all the luxuries we run after, all the success we crave for, in the end its all left here. We ignore our parents for things we know are temporary. One would say that human lives are temporary too! that's true, but the memories and the feelings of those people we love and hate are for as long as we live which is all that matters in the end. You wouldn't want to die rich but alone rather you'd prefer to die poor but surrounded with the people who love you.
You know, we can definitely say that the way we are right now is how our parents raised us. Then if the children are ignoring their parents is probably because they are raised that way, and it's true to some extent. We ignored our parents when we were needed by them. Parents get materialized easily now a days, they forget their main roles as parents and indulge in other activities. We see people giving advises to everyone all the time as if they have experienced it themselves, "He teaches ill who teaches all". We give advises but never work on them ourselves cause we think we don't need them. Parents don't give time to their children, we see mothers being more out of the house than inside the house. "One tongue is enough for a woman", when children see their mothers lying to other people about how much quality time they spend with their kids, doing different kinds of activities, this leaves a very bad impression on the kids. They believe that as long as you convince others that you have a happy family regardless of the truth, it's alright. Women have a habit of talking a lot, not just that they also have strong thoughts about being better than others, hence, sometimes they say things they shouldn't and go too far in lying about their family life, which is bad for them as mothers.
It's not just the moms but also the fathers, when they boast about how they spent time with their kids in front of their friends, it leaves a very sour impression on the kids. So parents need to set examples of truth and honesty, because a mother's lap and a father's personality are a child's first school. "Better safe than sorry", parents should accept their mistakes and correct them but this does not mean that its always the parents' fault, as one knows what's right and wrong. Another thing that needs to be cleared here is that if you do unfair things to your parents then your children are bound to do the same to you because that is what they learned from you. In simpler words, if you want a happy ending for yourself with your family then give your parents a happy ending with their family.
We all know, no one is as dumb or as smart as they pretend to be.
Children without parents are like people without names.
Remember, no matter how social, how helpful or how good you are at counselling others, if you don't help yourself or your family you'll always be contradicting your own actions that you do for others.
