Heat Takes a Toll on Players at the 2020 PDGA Disc Golf World Championships in Charlotte
The 2020 PDGA Disc Golf World Championships are taking place this week in Charlotte, North Carolina. The heat has taken a heavy toll on everyone involved, including the players.
The 2020 PDGA Disc Golf World Championships are taking place in Charlotte, North Carolina this week where temperatures have been in the 90s with the humidity at 80% and even higher much of the time. The best disc golf professionals from across the U.S., and all corners of the globe, including Japan, Finland, Norway, Australia, New Zealand and many other nations, have gathered here in the southeast to compete for this year's World Champion title. Unfortunately, the extreme heat and heavy muggy air is taking a toll on even the toughest disc golfers, and especially those who come from a typically cooler climate.
As the featured reporter for Disc Golf Planet TV, I'm covering this prestigious event; following these players across the courses throughout the day. Being from the Pacific Northwest and being used to cooler temperatures, I'm also having a difficult time dealing with the weather and can relate to the struggle that these men and women of all ages are going through. The importance of stay hydrated can never be stressed enough, and water bottles have been strategically placed throughout all of the courses to make sure everyone has enough water. Frankly, I'm not sure how they've managed to power through it all, but they are all the consummate professionals, extremely dedicated to their sport, and not prone to complaining no matter how bad it gets.
