Round 2 in our swanky drink perfumes.The menu today: Golden Wave, Mahana and Panahoe. The summer is flirting, I thought we'd head over to the BPAL Atomic Luau. Its miniature umbrellas & fruity drinks all around, as the cabana boys show us what they have.
Sadly, those drinks and amazing holidays never last and never come back to reality with you. But lament no longer! BPAL's Atomic Luau totally tackles that gaping void and now you can conjure those fruity, boozy vacation moments every time you take a breath. Formerly, a limited edition experience, the second generation of amazing scents from an island of scented adventure have made it into the permanent collection, giving you the chance to enjoy no matter how late you have arrived on this tropical island. . So its miniature umbrellas and fruity drinks all around, as we have a first peek at what our cabana boys have. On the menu today it's Golden Wave, Mahana and Panahoe.
Golden Wave
Scent Description: Tangerine, gin, passion fruit, guava, and tonic.
Good old Golden Wave. It was my first introduction into the Atomic Luau (just saying that makes me the Disney '‹Å"Tiki Room' song pop into my head), and what an amazing start it was. This scent is definitely a beginner's introduction, as its all fruity sweetness with a twist of gin.
In the bottle, I am confronted with a sweet fruit aroma, and dare to say a light brush of ginger promise. I can definitely sense a hint of the tangerine and what I suspect to be the guava. It washes over me, and I suspect I am about to be whisked off to a tropical paradise.
On my skin, the scent is similar but tangerine and guava scents intensify and dominate. I get waves of sparkling tonic lurking among the fruits as well. The gin makes its appearance but does so discreetly. It gives the scent a nice sharpness, while it refrains from overwhelming my nose and perhaps tricking my co-workers into suspecting I am a closet lush. I want to believe that there could be a bit of pikaki giving a warm floral feel to this as well, despite not being listed.
As the scent dries on my skin, the overall bouquet mingles together well.The tangerine and guava continue to lead the fruit pack, but passion fruit wafts past me as a late arrival. This is magical, a lovely juicy exotic summer fruit orgy. The gin continues to provide a nice sharpness, keeping the fruit from becoming over sweet. This scent is long lasting, as it carries me through the day in a golden wave, as I found myself practically super gluing my nose to my wrist. Overall, a beautiful scent that doesn't hesitate to whisper about tropical escapes while sticking miniature umbrellas straight up your nose.
Panahoe
Scent Description: Grenadine, banana, and coconut rum.
In my opinion, there are just not enough banana scents in the world. Seriously. I love the scent of banana gummies and smoothies. Sure the fruit perhaps is too subtle to continue but banana flavoured milk as a kid rocked my world.
Quick huffs of the Panahoe decant, and I can say that banana requirement is surely going to be met. Its dominant and rocking the decant demanding I let it out of its glass prison and onto my skin. As I prepare to give into its demands I wonder will bananas take over the world?
On the skin, banana is still king. I get a faint whisper of the other notes. The coconut is extremely faint but seems to brighten any blend. Here I'd say it tones down the banana vibe to a more mellow yellow. I wonder what would happen if it wasn't there. It acts as an umbrella in this scent, perhaps softening the blow from the olfactory hailstorm of banana candies (think runts) that are assaulting my nose. Occasionally, the scent imagery wavers and there is a slight threat of a plastic note, but as this scent dries I continue to get soaked in a banana juice downpour.
The dry stage arrives and banana continues to dominate as they refuse to share. It continues to squish out the other notes, and I only ever get a taste of rum and a dash of grenadine. It raises my suspicions that banana was raised as an only child, as it keeps to the centre stage. The plastic continues to threaten but never takes over, which is a good thing. But all in all, I smell like a candy banana out of a runt package, and that's not an everyday occurrence.
Mahana
Scent Description: Peach liquor, almond syrup, orgeat syrup, and pineapple cream de cacao.
When Mahana came out, I had an '‹Å"ooh peach. Ooh almond. Ooh -- wait what's orgeat?" moment. Well, using my advanced skills of '‹Å"Google-fu' my ignorance is quickly remedied. Apparently, orgeat is "a sweet syrup made from almonds, sugar and rose water or orange-flower water." Sounds good to me. Mahana went on the wishlist without a single niggling bit of doubt.
On arrival, and after being accosted by Panahoe things were a bit shy. Would
Mahana manhandle me like the last scent? Well, you never know until you get back on the horse.
A quick sniff and there is a sharp pineapple poking me in the nose, but a quick dab on the skin its immediately usurped by cherry almond. Yum. It's buttery without being foody or cakey. I hope it will stay, which inevitably means it won't last.
With dry down, the cherry almond wanes. Before, I can wonder about where the promised peach has wandered off to, it arrives at dry down. This is a lovely juicy peach, all ripe and fuzzy and ready to have teeth sunk into it. Its lovely. I also note a bit of greenery behind it, as if peach leaves have come away when we were tugging this fruit from the tree All I can say to this is lush.
While the liquor portion of this drink never really arrives on me skin, I am not saddened in the least. The cherry almond teaser and perfect peach chaser are beautiful. Together they get me into a summer vibe and a strange desire to supplement my 5 fruit a day requirement.
So, before I overdose you on the tropical goodness, we will take a break. Believe me there are more to see next time you are up for a tropical excursion.
