"John Dies at the End" (2020) Was a Great Movie
Surrealism, horror and comedy all mixed up together in one great movie! I couldn't ask for more, this may be a bit dorky but I couldn't stress this to you any further...Watch this movie!
The film is coined as a comedy and even though some of the jabs seemed a little too contrite and forced...you can still laugh at its sheer silliness. For the most part the comedy worked for me and although I wasn't laughing on the floor; I laughed enough to say: "Now this is a comedy!" I was reminded of movies like "The Cabin in the Woods" mixed with some "Evil Dead 2" which are very cool movies to be reminded of. The horror part of course was there but it was the kind of horror that had hints of science fiction and surrealism! Things I love and wish there was more of on celluloid. Sure you can call this a fantasy...I mean everything is a fantasy right? This movie is the kind of film that will toy with your imagination and make you believe that everything really is a fantasy and man did I appreciate that attempt. Did John look the way he was shown? Or was he a projection? I could ask so many questions about this movie but I wouldn't be sure of the answers just as I'm not sure of the questions...I know it doesn't make sense but that's where the beauty lies. Did I get my Phix?! Oh you better believe it.
There is a bit of drama which I thought Giamatti nailed, there is a little romance, mystery and a whole lot of other stuff that I just couldn't get enough of, I guess I wished the film was longer. Oh and to the director, Don Coscarelli...thank you for this film.
