The South course at Innsbruck Resort and Golf Club is quiet unique and famous than its other counterparts. The abrupt changes in the layout make it appealing and pleasantly challenging to the golf players.
The South course in Innsbruck Resort and Golf Club is the most popular one because of its distinctive layout and is said to be the kid brother of the other courses. You be wondering why "kid brother?" It is because of its- metaphorically speaking-rebellious nature. It starts like the other courses with thick tree-lined fairways but as it reached the hole 5 it dramatically changes it layout. It becomes an enormous breezy space. The thick tree-line disappears and you will find yourself amidst of wild grass and rough fairways.
People usually comment that the South Course resembles Scottish look. The wide open tree-less land spans all the way from hole 5 to 13 and then turns back to how it started in tree covered fairways. Glenn O'Steen from North Carolina likes the inconsistent layout of South Course compared to the other ones. He believes it's a welcome change.
Out of the other three courses in Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club, the South Course is considered to be the easiest but the hole 7 is not that effortless. The mounded bunkers in front of the green block the view, just like how Scottish like it. The bunkers are facing the greens on the other side. Hole 8 is the most difficult one to play with a pond which starts about halfway down towards right. The surface is even, it first slopes down towards the pond and then you need to play your way up again.
The South Course which is 6,620 yards if bigger than the North Course which is 6325 yards. The wide open layout of the South Course makes it very windy and difficult for the players.
You have to admit that the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club has taken especial care on the conditioning of the course. It is beautiful and very scenic with a nice view of canals and creeks from the bridges.
