Ever since Tiger Woods' scandal broke - readers will remember names such as Julie Postle, Mindy Lawton, Rachel Uchitel and Jaimee Grubbs - there has been speculation if the star-athlete's image can recover. It is time for an update.
Apparently a mix between an apology and a roll-out of future plans - ostensibly to discuss how he will make amends to fans and sponsors - Woods' announcement points out that his update is not a news conference. Between the lines, this suggests that while press is invited, there will be no question and answer session, merely a tightly controlled and delivered statement. This is the first time since the November, 2020 car accident that Tiger Woods will speak in public.
Remember Kobe Bryant?
The connection between Lakers star Kobe Bryant and the Tiger Woods scandal was made early on when TMZ reported on the "Kobe Special" comment among speculations wondering what Woods might do to make amends to his wife. As outlined by People Magazine back in 2003, Kobe Bryant actually did hold a press conference, welcomed questions, and faced the press and public with his wife by his side.
Much like Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant acknowledged that some issues had to be worked out within their marriage - a sentiment echoed by his wife - but he went to great lengths to offer a 'mea culpa' and actively repair his tarnished public image.
