Michelle Williams Rocks Shorts on the Red Carpet - Other Stars Who've Done the Same

Michelle Williams paired a new short, punk-style haircut with a pair of shorts at the Kate Young for Target launch event. So which other celebrities have worn shorts on the red carpet?
Also published on:

Michelle Williams looked trendy and sweet as always when she rocked the red carpet at the Kate Young for Target launch event on Tuesday in NYC.

The adorable actress paired her new punk-pixie hairstyle with super-long bangs with a pair of satin navy blue shorts, a black top with a see-through polka dot accent on the neck, a white blazer with black trim on the collar, and a pair of black platform pumps. She appeared extremely put together, and her legs looked absolutely amazing.

Michelle Williams has rocked shorts on the red carpet before, and she's not the only star who has found a way to make the casual closet staple look stylish and sophisticated enough for special events. Here's a look at a few other famous fans of the fashion trend:

Kristen Stewart

Last December, K-Stew got very creative with her look at the premiere of "On the Road" in NYC. She rocked a pair of high-waisted, white satin shorts and a white satin bra top underneath a see-through dress covered with a flirty and feminine floral pattern in pink and orange. She paired her Erdem outfit with a pair of playful orange Christian Louboutin pumps. The outfit looked more like something Katy Perry would wear, and it makes us wish Kristen would wear happy colors like orange more often.

K-Stew also donned shorts to the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards last month. She wore a checked short-sleeved top and shorts combo in a dark blue color that looked amazing against her pale skin. The shiny ensemble was slightly sophisticated, but it was still appropriate for the fun event.

Selena Gomez

Selena also rocked a pair of shorts at the Kids' Choice Awards. She looked ultra-feminine in a pale blue Oscar de la Renta top paired with white shorts and a pair of strappy silver heels by Gucci, but we're digging her shorts from the 2020 premiere of "The Thing" a little more -- she rocked a super-affordable pair of $19 black glitter shorts from Forever21.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda's red carpet look from the 2020 premiere of "In Time" didn't work quite as well. She wore a turquoise tailored tuxedo jacket and matching shorts by H M; that definitely made her legs look great, but the shiny shorts suit looked like a mini-version of an outfit from "The Golden Girls" or a tacky costume that a washed-up Vegas magician would wear.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Forty-year-old Gwyneth proved that rocking shorts on the red carpet isn't just something that the gals of young Hollywood can pull off when she donned a pair of white shorts with a white blazer at the 2020 premiere of "Iron Man 2." Her look was an example of a shorts suit done right, but we wish she wouldn't have completed the look with a pair of ugly, open-toe booties in black. A pair of strappy silver or gold heels would have looked sexier and more sophisticated.

Demi Moore

Shorts can look chic on the red carpet, but they can also look ridiculous and tacky -- Demi's biker shorts were definitely a fashion disaster at the 1989 Oscars. The actress paired her lacy biker shorts with an incredibly gaudy gold mullet dress and a low-cut bustier. Her look was half Marie Antoinette and half '80s jazzercise, and it was all sorts of wrong.

So do you think that shorts are too casual for red carpet events, or do you think that they can be just as glamorous as a gown when they're done right?
