A detailed review of Oak Quarry Golf Club, Goose Creek Golf Club, and Empire Lakes Golf Course.
The next best course in the Inland Empire is Goose Creek Golf Club. Although the staff and layout of this course is a notch below Oak Quarry, this golf course is an extremely great value and seems to always be in great shape. With midweek rates in the $45 range, it makes for a round worthy of our current economic status and always sees a large amount of play. The layout is fun, but nowhere near as challenging as "The Rock", unless you play in the steady afternoon wind. The fairways are generous and the overall flat nature of this course makes for an easy walk and a fun day regardless of how you strike the golf ball, as the penalties appear less severe here. Beware of the Santa Ana River and surrounding barranca, as it provides good scenery on several holes, but can come into play quite easily with loose shots, especially in the wind. Rounding out my top 3 is Empire Lakes Golf Course. Although some consider it to be somewhat overpriced, there always seems to be deals when you sign up for their email specials and/or Southland Golf Magazine often offers midweek rate coupons - regularly $60 midweek, but deals often provide you a t-t-time for $30-40. The shop staff here is friendly and the overall nature of this course attracts many locals, as the practice facilities are usually top notch. As an Arnold Palmer Company design this course offers his classic bunkering, natural dunes, and water (most notably on the front nine) comes into play to keep players honest. As an ex-Nationwide Tour stop this course received much positive press and acclaim and created much popularity among surrounding city residents on what was primarily a 'Rancho Cucamonga natives only' implied facility. Not a difficult walk, but cart is in included with your t-time, so its up to you. The greens read and roll true, with relatively little outside influence.
