The SNL Tiger Woods Skit and the Taking in Adultery of a Golf Legend
One of the perks of being both a celebrity and someone taken in adultery is the one gets to be made fun of on Saturday Night Live. The SNL Tiger Woods skit played on December 5th, as the poor champion gofer was mired in more scandal.
The SNL Tiger Woods skit depicted CNN's Wolf Blitzer as he reported on Tiger Wood's multiple press conferences, along with the smiling (at first) Ms. Woods, as he tried to explain his "transgressions." Each attempt resulted in Tiger Woods saying exactly the wrong thing and then being taken again to the hospital after an "accident" inflicted by the put upon, blond, inhumanly strong, former Swedish model Ms. Woods.
The SNL Tiger Woods skit tells us two things, one disturbing, one very cautionary.
The first thing, the disturbing thing, is that domestic violence is still pretty funny when the woman is doing it to the man and the man seems to have asked for it. The SNL Tiger Woods skit would have been in very poor taste if it had been Ms. Woods caught inflagranti delectio resulting in her husband braining her with a golf club. It would not have mattered if Ms. Woods had taken on the entire PGA in the style of Messalina. Tiger Woods would still have gone to jail and would have likely had to cough up hundreds of millions in the divorce settlement. But the idea of the woman beating on the man is considered somewhat amusing, still, even decades after the advent of feminism.
The second thing, the very cautionary thing, is the ancient admonishment to all men who marry and then have temptation come their way. This is especially true for celebrities, such as Tiger Woods, from who temptation is constantly throwing herself at him. There is a choice that such men have to face. They can either marry and have a meaningful relationship with one, special woman, perhaps with the goal of a family. Or they can have a string of meaningless affairs with night club hostesses and other golf groupies. One can generally not try to have both and expect to be uncaught.
So, gentleman, a word from one old and wise. If you are contemplating marriage to that special someone, think long and hard about whether you can actually forsake all others. Your future happiness and that of your soon to be wife will depend on the answer. It is too late for Tiger Woods. It is not too late for you.
