Top 10 Golf Movies of All Time
There are many golf movies out there on the market, but which one's are worth watching? Here is my list of top movies and also some honorable and not-so-honorable mentioned films.
1. Caddyshack (1980) Starring Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray
You do not have to say much about this classic comedy.
2. Happy Gilmore (1996) Starring Adam Sandler amp; Christopher McDonald
Many purists or traditionalists will not agree, but this hockey player turned golfer story always makes me stop surfing the cable channels.
3. Tin Cup (1996) Starring Kevin Costner, Renee Russo, Don Johnson
The story of Roy McAvoy, trying to win the US Open and the love of his therapist, while getting away from his West Texas driving range.
4. A Gentleman's Game (2001) Starring Mason Gamble amp; Gary Sinise
This is a great story about more than just the game of golf. From the dark history of the teaching pro to the lessons young Timmy Price learns about society, culture and the class system, this golf movie is more than about getting birdies.
5. The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000)Starring Will Smith, Matt Damon, Charlize Theron
This blockbuster cast retells a story more about love and alcoholism than the game of golf itself. This film is also known as Jack Lemmon's final appearance on the big screen.
6. The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005) Starring Shia LaBeouf, Stephen Marcus
This great golf story follows the 1913 US Open, and the unlikely hero of Francis Ouimet (played by Shia LaBeouf).
7. Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius (2004) Starring James Caviezel amp; Malcolm McDowell
After retiring at the young age of 28 years old, this is a story of all the struggles that Bobby Jones faced in his life.
8. The Boys of Sunset Ridge (2001) Starring John Heard, Burt Young, Ronny Cox
This is a wonderful story about friendships and the game of golf that has helped them to keep those life-long friends. What started as fun, grew to have much more meaning than a game.
9. Who's Your Caddy (2020) Starring Big Boi, Lil Wayne, Faizon Love
What do you do when you will not be accepted into a private club? Try a different way in, by buying some land that is adjacent to the 17th hole and see what happens.
10. Caddyshack II (1988) Starring Jackie Mason, Chevy Chase
Jackie Mason is classic in this comedy that tries to bring the snobby private country club to the general public with a few subtle changes.
