It's the 2020 Doomsday Again

Can't afford an $80,000.00 shelter? Don;t have connections to the great underground civilizations? Take a look at these tips to surviving the end of the world on a shoestring budget.

First things first, lets forget the super hype. Every website is combing at the chance to make a profit off this hype. Embedded in this doomsday field trip is some resemblance to truth. It is true that the Mayan calender does end on December 21st 2020. And the Mayan people were extremely good when it came to their calenders aligning with the stars. So amidst the hyperbole, there is truth. However, lets stay grounded for a moment. If the world is going to end, then you are probably going to die. And even if you weren't;t going to die, the world you survive in is going to be such a mess that you are going to wish you were dead. So don;t bother spending thousands of dollars saving a life that may not even be worth living.

The first step you should take is deciding where you want to go. What cheap place is going to be suitable for you and your family. There seems to be a consensus that underground is going to be the safest place. The question is, how are you going to get there? Underground bunkers are astronomically expensive, and unproven. Never in the history of man has it been tested. It's just an odds on favorite to survive. Additionally, I always found the thought of an underground bunker to be more of an inconvenience. These man made contraptions will probably have major malfunctions that come along with them. Do you own a home? Not a week goes by that something in my home doesn't go wrong. So why put yourself in an expensive tomb? Furthermore, the most likely scenarios seem to displace the oceans and seas. Great, so you survived the apocalypse but you literally buried yourself under millions and millions of gallons of salt water. The conclusion I came up with is to find a man made structure. Caves that go into the ground are possible. They've been around for hundreds of thousands of years. Again, you run into the problem of water coming into your home. Additionally, underground caves may be far from home. Another option, and the one I personally will seek out, is a mountain cave. Though it may take some time to find one, a weekly hike and some Internet searches will point you in the right direction. The mountain caves will give you natural protection, protection that has a history behind it. Also, the higher elevation will keep you from the potential rising sea levels.

So, you found your new 2020 home. Hopefully your new home is near a 2020 pharmacy. But lets not count on CVS opening up a 24 hour drug store on top of your new mountain. How are you going to get your meds? Research has shown that many of the modern medicines have beneficial natural medicines. And although the natural vitamins don't hold the evidence that they will keep your diseases at bay, its better than just giving in. I suggest slowly making a multi vitamin stockpile. Do another Internet search of what natural drugs help certain disease. Vitamin C for cold and flu. Vitamin D has been linked to serotonin, which many anti-depressants keep in check. A backpack full of multi vitamins will go a long way. If this sounds too expensive, you may want to look into a multi-vitamin. Or, just explain to your pharmacist that you need a prescription filled for the next 5 years just in case of apocalyptic doom. And then you'll be on a whole new regime of medications.

If I could live in a cave and still eat five star meals, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, you're going to be left to your own devices. Best case scenario is you will be close enough to a river to fish and kill wild game. Pack a bow and arrow in your survival sack. With guns and rifles being the modern day kill switch, people forget the bow and arrow is extremely proficient in hunting all game. Fish, bird and four legged wild life such as deer and moose. Additionally, it does keep your family protected from other scavengers. Be sure to roast all your meats. Wild animals do carry wild diseases. And though not all bacteria will die, the odds are in your favor that most will be burned off. Do not expect a delicacy. The meat will be rough and taste unpleasant. But this is survival, and you need to eat.

Along with food, you're going to need to keep hydrated. Again, this is where a river will come in handy. Be sure to boil all water that is collected. Untreated water can contain many carcinogens. Of course, desperate times call for desperate measures, but just remember untreated river water could have dead animals upstream. So its best to try and treat it. You can also purify water by filtering it through dirt. It won't filter out all the microorganisms, but it will filter out some. The best water available may be rain water. If you can build a rain catcher, or even a solar still, this will increase your chances of survival. Dehydration is a bitch.

These fairly cheap techniques will ensure a better chance of survival, without killing your wallet. Best of luck in 2020.
