Breaking News: Jersey Shore Cast Actually Smarter Than They Look? or is This Statement Too Far of a Stretch?
Breaking News: Jersey Shore cast is actually holding out for more money from MTV before signing for Season 2. This is suprising considering the entertainment value of this show is centered around lack of intellect.
How do you spell negotiation?
I am sure not a one of the Jersey Shore cast can, but they seem to know what it means.
This seems like a horrific amount of money to pay these young adults whose entertainment value was mostly the lack of intelligence. MTV has a hit show here with almost 5 million viewers tuning in for the finale. Comparing this to similar reality TV, the cast of "The Hills" get $100,000 each per episode. The Jersey Show cast has already proven they can rack up the views, so it isn't like MTV is taking a big leap of faith here. It is already tried and true.
What is the entertainment value in a show like MTV's, The Jersey Shore? I have not figured this out yet, although I have watched all the episodes and frankly, they kept my interest. For me it is for the same reason that I liked to watch Al and Peg Bundy on "Married with Children". They Bundy's were not the sharpest knifes in the drawer and it was entertaining to hear their ignorance ring in and out as jokes. The Jersey Shore is a real life version of this type of entertainment. The ignorance of these kids does turn into entertainment.
The cast certainly thinks a lot of themselves, and why wouldn't they? We turn in to watch them decide on what to wear, brag about their bedroom scores and listen to them tell us how great they are.
I think these young adults have only one promising season left in them. They certainty are never going to be asked to do a movie or a sitcom. When your entertainment value is to show ignorance at its best, there is just so much of this to go around. By the end of next season we will have had it with what these kids have to offer and at best they will end up on Celebrity Fat Club or Celebrity Rehab. Mark my words because this will be their next gig after Jersey Shore gets washed away, with only one more good season left in that salt air.
Maybe MTV sees this too and feels what they are offering is a gamble because how long can you entertain people by giving them a ring side seat to killing brain cells and stupid behaviors? My advice is to take your 15 minutes of fame Snookie and friends because the window for that time is closing quickly. What kind of show is there for Snookie and friends in their 30's? Watching them struggle with the bills and their first home? We certainly would not watch the cast raising kids. Too scary! What they have to offer is in short demand and time is a ticking away! Take the money and do what you do best. Wow us with your lack of intellect on the Jersey Shore!
Reference: MTV TMZ reports that MTV offered Snookie and friends each a bonus of $10,000 to sign on and then $5,000 dollars each per episode. The cast has banded together and said that they will be negotiating as a group and they want considerably more than what MTV has offered. MTV came back with an offer of $10,000 per episode for each. This offer has not been responded to as of yet from the cast members.
