Christmas Craft Idea: Golf Ball Themed Ornament
This golf ball themed ornament is perfect for the golf enthusiast in your life! Make as a gift, or attach to an organdy bow and use as a wonderful present topper. (Note: The color suggestions here are just a recommendation. Be creative!)
For this project, you will need:
- One plain, new golf ball
- Two wooden golf tees
- Krylon Short Cuts Aerosol Paint in Red Pepper
- Krylon Short Cuts Aerosol Paint in Hunter Green
- Gold or silver acrylic paint pen
- Hot glue gun with glue sticks
- Red or green scrapbook cord
- Egg Carton
- Plenty of newspaper
- Safety mask
Start first by covering your workspace well with newspaper. For safety, make sure you are working in a well ventilated area and using a safety mask.
Open the egg carton. Place the golf ball inside one of the egg niches. With the Krylon Short Cuts Aerosol Paint in Red Pepper apply one coat, keeping the can six or seven inches from the surface of the ball. Allow the paint to dry fifteen to twenty minutes before rotating the golf ball and painting the other side. Repeat this process of spray paint and drying until the entire ball is well coated in red pepper paint. Set aside.
Lay one of the golf tees flat on your newspaper workspace. With the Krylon Short Cuts Aerosol Paint in Hunter Green, again being held six to seven inches from the surface of the tee, apply one coat. Once the front side of the tee has dried, rotate and repeat with the backside until it is completely painted. Repeat this process with the second golf tee.
Heat up your hot glue gun and glue sticks. Very carefully, apply a thin layer of glue to the spike side of one golf tee. Press the tee to the side of the golf ball. Allow the glue to dry before repeating with the other tee and the opposite side of the golf ball. (Hint: Your project should look like this "ToT", with each T being a golf tee and the o being the ball.)
With the gold or silver acrylic paint pen, write "Merry Christmas" on the front of the golf ball. Allow the wording to dry fully. Cut a length of scrapbook cord and form into a "u" shape. Tie each end to the top of a golf tee. If desired, secure with an added dot of hot glue and allow it to dry. Voila! Your golf ball theme ornament is now ready for giving!
TIP: Additional messages can be used on the golf ball. Try such hits as "#1 Golfer" or "#1 Dad" for starters.
