Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS Unit: Get it and Go!
I would like to get into geocaching this summer, and I'm very confident that my Garmin Nuvi 350 shall prove excellent equipment for that sport of geeks.
Some people have expressed concern about the unit's battery life, which clocks in at between four and eight hours. This could be something of a problem for a geocacher, I admit; but then again maybe you don't want to be just hiking out in the wilderness for eight hours straight, either.
The Garmin Nuvi 350, which is amazingly small and thus highly portable, is very popular with a lot of us GPS users. There is very little "body" compared to the amount of screen that you get, and that's important to us. We usually agree that it's one of the most user friendly GPS units to be found, and it's highly accurate, too. Not all GPS units are equally accurate, due to programming differences, so the Garmin Nuvi 350's high degree of accuracy is very important, not to mention refreshing. Not only is it highly accurate, but it's zoom-zoom-zoom fast, too. In addition to its accuracy, the Garmin Nuvi 350 also talks to you. It doesn't just show, it tells. What this means for you is that you can keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel when driving, and you can watch your step and look out for overhanging, face-swatting branches when you are hiking.
"View Map", "Travel Kit", and "Where To?" are the three essential features of the Garmin Nuvi 350 and they're quite easy to learn. They can all be mastered in less than 15 minutes, in my experience, and I'm slow and dense. A strange "dark side" to this high degree of accuracy is that sometimes the Garmin Nuvi 350 unit gives you some, well, weird directions for going from A to B, almost as if it thinks that there's a giant oak tree growing in the middle of a street that you'll be taking and it is trying to guide you around that tree!
The Garmin Nuvi 350 also is very impressive when it comes to pre-sets. It has several pre-installed navigational features to take you to points of interest or importance in the area where you find yourself. I personally like its Intersections, Community, Entertainment, Attractions, and Recreation pre-loads. These go hand in hand with, though independent from, the Travel Kit feature, wherein you find a Travel Guide, Measurement Converter, Currency Converter, and World Clock. Not only does it have pre-sets of its own, but the Garmin Nuvi 350 lets you import other people's customized discoveries and local knowledge. So you can avoid hidden cliffs and you can avoid speed traps, too!
The great concern about the Garmin Nuvi 350 is its relatively hefty price tag. But I say you get what you pay for.
