Cape Fear National Golf Club in Brunswick Forest: A Full Review
The landscape and over-all design of Cape Fear National has been well-thought of and it really shows with its lush surroundings and fully equipped clubhouse. At the end of the day, even if you had a bad game the view of the splendid terrain.
Managing Cape Fear National is Kemper Sports, a trusted name in the golf scene. The golf club is situated in the middle of the Brunswick Forest which is a big property just 10 minutes away from the Wilmington area. 8,000 residences are slated to be built in this property of the Lord Baltimore Properties, another trusted name in the real estate business.
Tim Cate was asked to design Cape Fear National Golf Club because the owners wanted to commission someone who is familiar with the area. Tim Cate has also earned great reviews for his work on Grand Strand. To create the golf course at Cape Fear National, Cate worked with 1.5 million cubic feet of soil to create ponds, hills and undulating terrain. He adds a surprise element to his design by creating a ridge covered with heather along the back nine. This ridge is a welcome surprise from the monotonous flatness of the surrounding area.
Cate uses his experience as a landscape artist in the design of Cape Fear National by adding waterfalls and serene creeks. Some of his sand bunkers even drop off directly into the water. There is also an abundant scattering of wildflowers throughout the golf course. It is indeed a pretty sight to see the vibrant colors of these flowers on the green grass of the fairways.
Cape Fear National does not have a forested area only a lot of sand. It is full of slopes and hollows which makes the game more interesting. The undulating terrain of Cape Fear National is also a great sight to behold as you tee off. The hollows pose a challenge but they can be avoided by sticking to the fairways thickly covered in Bermuda grass. Here is a good tip though, when playing at the Cape Fear National always have your trusty short iron for getting out of these traps.
Water, marshes and waste bunkers are abundant in Cape Fear National so be prepared to be playing in and around them. Plans are on-going for the addition of forward tees in Number 1 and Number 10 to prevent a lot of marsh carries, according to Brad Walker the director for marketing and sales of the Cape Fear National.
The greens of Cape Fear National are enormous and planted with special A1/A4 bentgrass. The velvety surface of the grass helps to bring about more speed and accuracy for the golfers.
As a whole, Cape Fear National Golf Club has a lot to offer to golfers of various skills with its five tees strategically placed in the 7,217 and the 4,802 yards and its six pin positions.
