Air Golf for Kids
Your kids will have lots of fun playing air golf!
When the weather begins to warm up a bit most kids are ready and willing to go outside to play. They've become bored, in the house a lot during colder months, and the warm weather spells outdoor fun. But, if they've grown tired of riding their bikes today, and they really can't think of anything else to do, make a game for them. It's fun for kids to play air golf and it's really easy for you to set it up in the backyard.
Use wire coat hangers to make the goals for the fun golf game. Shape the hangers into circles but leave the hanger part intact. It's a good idea to wrap the hangers with colored tape or even crepe paper. This makes them easier to see.
Position the hangers in various places around the yard. Keep in mind the height of the players so that you don't hang the goals too high. Plot a "course" by hanging the first hanger, walking several feet away and hanging another one, and continuing to do this until you've hung 6 or more of the hangers.
You set the rules for the game according to how easy or difficult the goals will be. For example, you can state that a certain area is where the kids will stand to throw the ball (great for little kids), or you can state that they must throw it from where it lands, after throwing it through the previous goal (perfect for older kids). The ball you use for the air gold game should be one that's about the size of a softball.
It can sometimes be difficult to tell if the ball actually went through the hoop or beside it. For this reason, it's a good idea to hang a small bell in front of each hoop. You can order small bells online at a craft store. They're seasonal so it can be difficult to find them locally unless it's near the Christmas holiday.
Cut a piece of string long enough to go around the neck of the hanger and hang in the center. Thread the string through the opening on the bell then tie it in a knot. At the opposite end, wrap it around the neck of the hanger and tie it tightly around the hanger. When it's all finished the bell should hang at or near the center of the hoop.
Give kids one point for each time they miss the hoop and the person with the lowest points wins. This game is a lot of fun but it's also a great game because, after it's over, the hangers can simply be hung somewhere until the kids are ready to play again!
