Visitors to 150 Mile House, British Columbia can enjoy a wonderful afternoon tea at this delightful tea shop, The Yellow Umbrella/Thyme for Tea.
My husband took me to the tea house on a drive between Alaska and Oregon. We spotted the little place while driving down highway 97. The shop is bright and cheerful and catches the eye. Even in late fall, when the trees and plants aren't lush, the tea shop was a gorgeous stop for weary travelers.

Inside, prepare yourself for a busy hive of activity. The front portion of the building is devoted to a store filled to the brim with all things related to tea. Discover wonderful tea gadgets like decorative tea bag holders, interesting loose leaf strainers, as well as fun honey sticks. Around the shop are also decorative and house items such as wall art, greeting cards, and candles. A person could spend a lot of time in The Yellow Umbrella just marveling over the fantastic selection of gift items.
The walls also contain shelves filled with large jars of loose tea. Lose yourself reading the dazzling descriptions of dozens of tasty teas. The ladies at The Yellow Umbrella/Thyme for Tea really know their stuff when it comes to this brewed delight. Thyme for Tea
Seating is limited in the tea shop. When we visited, a large party was taking place for some little girls who were all dressed up, so we had a bit of a wait. However, when we finally got a table, we found it was definitely worth the wait.
The menu is a spectacular offering of scones, quiches, salads, soups, and desserts. Each is perfectly suited for enjoying with a hot cup of tea. I especially loved the pumpkin cheesecake, which was sweet and rich. A small piece is easily shared.
Each person, though, can choose his or her own tea. It arrives in a cute little pot and poured in mismatched tea cups. I loved the fact that though the waitresses served the tea with a flourish, ceremony did not stand when it came to the china. The mix-and-match aspect of the teapots, teacups, and saucers added whimsy to the experience.
Too, the servers are very helpful when you can't decide what to order. They will also make sure to work around any food allergies you may have. We sampled two different quiches, both of which were delicious. I enjoyed a crisp salad that came with almonds and cranberries. We also enjoyed a roasted red pepper and sausage soup that was a contrast of spicy smoothness perfect for a chilly day. Prices were very reasonable.
